Macambo

Scientific name:

Theobroma bicolor
Macambo is helping Kichwa families in the Amazon to strengthen their agroforestry systems and to create new economic opportunities, while conserving their territories and ancestral knowledge.

Macambo — a close relative of cacao — is a traditional Amazonian crop rich in protein, fiber, and natural compounds of high nutritional value. Its roasted seeds offer significant gastronomic and commercial potential while retaining strong cultural value for communities that have cultivated it for generations.

ALIADOS supports this value chain by strengthening agroforestry production of Macambo in partnership with commercial partner Canopy Bridge.
