Goldenberry
Scientific name:
Physalis peruviana
Thousands of farming families in Ecuador’s highlands depend on goldenberries as an important source of income. Through collaboration among producers, businesses, and local organizations, this crop has become a productive alternative that generates economic opportunities and strengthens sustainable agriculture.
Ecuadorian goldenberry is recognized for its distinctive flavor, nutritional value, and growing demand in domestic and international markets. Its production supports smallholder farmers and strengthens rural economies.
Since 2023, ALIADOS has promoted participatory research through Farmer-Researcher Networks (FRNs), where farmers themselves lead the development of solutions to improve productivity, address emerging challenges, and strengthen the sustainability of their farms.
